The Superheroes at the Silicon Valley Community Foundation has foreseen the growing population of the Bay Area (35% over the next 25 years) and has involved the people in planning for this growth. With the help of 38 community heroes from public health, business, and labor, the foundation is addressing this population growth and involving the public to decide what this growth will look like. By involving the community at large, our Silicon Valley heroes are approaching a very serious change in the population that will affect the community’s future. This will allow everyone to decide how these changes will take place. By involving the community, Silicon Valley can control what their future will look like.
Silicon Valley is internationally known for its success. Many people think it’s the capital, investments, and skilled workforce that is responsible. But actually, the world could learn more by taking a look at Silicon Valley’s carefully balanced recipe of social interaction. The unique culture that allows people from a wide variety of backgrounds to gain trust and interact with each other is what drives its success. Employees spend time together on a project, move on to other things, and later reconvene for another project, bringing what they’ve learned elsewhere with them. The power of the frontier spirit, where individualism is put aside for the greater good, is what is fostered here. Here in Silicon Valley, differences in background and experience are put aside so a goal can be met as quickly as possible, leading to the most innovative culture around.
And there’s good reason to move forward with optimism. Thanks to the tireless efforts of our heroes, Silicon Valley has been ranked top in the nation for quality of life!
Gallup Healthways Well-Being Index ranked cities by general happiness, job satisfaction, health insurance, and safety, with Silicon Valley ranking the highest in the nation. Aside from the issues our heroes are still battling with, such as the cost of living, commuter traffic and job security, Silicon Valley offers something else. What really makes the Silicon Valley great is the availability of funds. Not only is there monetary wealth here, but the wealthy believe in helping the new guy get started. They are not complacent, but rather, engaged as financial supporters of future generations of wealth. This is how the power of optimism for the future becomes infectious, resulting in the innovative and progressive area known as the Silicon Valley.

REVIEW – It all begins with communication. As a hero, I can only do so much by myself. If I don’t communicate with everyone else on what we can do to improve our quality of life, then everything I am currently working on will only be short term. To do that, I would have to use my superpowers to create flyers and videos promoting everything I am doing to improve our quality of life. They will convince people to act and spread the word so that our efforts won’t be short term. The effects of what we do will roll over into future generation and, hopefully, everyone will benefit.ACT – What can we do about it? Help us decide:
Our alliance should tackle the issue of education. We can’t do the things we want unless everyone is properly educated on it.I would like to ally with teachers, and the government in order to find a common understanding to fix the system we have in place.I would like to have the power of understanding. Most of the problems are caused by a deep misunderstanding of how to tackle issues. With this new power, I can go forth and find compromise that will help everyone.
